FYR Macedonia

Railways of Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia operate within the area of the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia situated in the central part of the Balkan Peninsula.

Connections
The principal line, and the route most visitors will travel, is the north/south rail link between Belgrade (or Beograd in Serbia) and Thessaloniki in Greece, stopping off in Skopje, capital of Macedonia with a population of 600,000.

History
The first railway within the area of the present Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia commenced its operation in August 1873 when by rail were connected Thessaloniki and Skopje.

By announcing the independence of the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia, in September 1991, commenced the process of independence of the Railways of Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia.
