The sturdy looking Palais Royal, situated in front of Brussels Park, is the official palace of the King of the Belgians is worth a visit. During warm summer days Cinquantenaire Park is the perfect place to lay back and relax. Get a spectatcular 360º view across Brussels atop the Atomium observation tower. The innovative structure is shaped like an iron atom and blown up to 165 million times its actual size.

Cinquantenaire Park can be reached by Metro from Brussel’s main train station – get off at Schuman.

Comical and sweet

A quirky addition to any visit to Brussels is the Centre Belge de la Bande Dessinée (Belgian Comic Strip Centre) where you can find examples from Belgian comic artists Tintin and the Smurfs, as well as an exhibition on the comic strip creation. A trip to Belgium would be wasted without nipping into a good quality chocolatier, where you can savour those tasty praline shells. Stock up on some of this mouth-watering Belgian chocolate!

Endless flow of beer

By night enjoy pub-crawling around Place de St-Géry or the Manneken-Pis area of the city and try out a few of Belgium’s speciality beers – though trying them all is a trial in futility, since there are hundreds to choose from. Brussels has long had a lively jazz scene with jazz bars dotted around the centre and popular events running throughout the year.
