Be spoilt by world-famous attractions
There’s a good reason why Paris is visited by around 30 million tourists every year. No other city is quite like it. You’ll be spoiled with beautiful sites and fascinating monuments and museums spread across the 20 arrondissements (the Parisian division of neighbourhoods). The Eiffel Tower, pointing its head through the Parisian skyline, is an obvious choice, though one that’s well worth it. Other top-notch attractions include the Louvre, recognisable by its contemporary glass pyramid entrance. This world-famous gallery has an immense collection of art and sculpture, including the well-known Mona Lisa, where you can make your own interpretation of what Da Vinci’s protagonist had on her mind.
The Eiffel Tower is a few minutes walk from the Trocadéro Metro stop. Get off at Palais-Royal-Musée du Louvre and the museum is a just a few minutes walk away.
Sit back and admire French style
Although the Avenue des Champs-Élysées is overrun by tourists and expensive shopping, it still managed to retain some of its charm. Sit at one of the terraces for a coffee and a spot of people-watching. If you’re not all that impressed, you will be when you catch sight of the Arc de Triomphe at the end of this avenue. Enjoy panoramic views from the monument that is in honour of those who fought in the French Revolution and Napoleonic wars.On the other side of the chic avenue observe utter road madness at the Place de la Concorde.
The Champs-Élysées is served by a metro station of the same name.
Hidden gem
It might seem to you a rather unusual tourist site, but Paris’s Père Lachaise cemetery has stacks of tourists passing through its gates every day. It's the resting place to some of the world’s greatest artists like Molière, Édith Piaf, Oscar Wilde and The Door’s lead man, Jim Morrison. The cemetery itself houses elaborate sepulchres and tombs, within beautifully kept grounds. A little more time in Paris and there are plenty more gems waiting to be uncovered. Once you’ve fallen in love with this city you’ll have to tear yourself away, so you can see the rest of the country.
The nearest metro station to the cemetery is Philippe Auguste.
