InterRail pass holders with a pass that is valid in Italy and Greece can travel for free on the routes:

  • Bari – Corfu (Greece) (crossings during summer only)
  • Ancona – Igoumenitsa (Greece)

  • Ancona – Patras (Greece)
  • Bari – Patras (Greece)

1st class: Free airline-type seats or dormitory.
2nd class: Free economy seating.

InterRail pass holders with a pass valid in Italy or Greece get a 30% discount on these routes.

Because InterRail celebrates it's 40th anniversary this year, The Attica Group offers a 10% discount for InterRail passholders on all consumptions at bars, self service and a la carte restaurants onboard Attica vessels during 2012. The discount is valid from 27 March until 31 December. To benefit from the discount, just present your InterRail Pass at the check-in point! 

Please note that the 10% discount isn't valid on the onboard shops, boutiques and casino.

Bari is a 4 hour train ride from Rome. From Bari’s train station, take bus 20 to the ports.

Venice's passenger terminal is located near the city centre. There’s a shuttle bus service that can take you from Piazzale Roma to the terminal. Please note that you have to contact your ferry company for timetables and more information.

Civitavecchia’s Port can be reached by train from Rome in about 1 hour. Grimaldi Lines operates a shuttle bus service from Napels to Civitavecchia. Purchase a ticket on board of your ferry or the bus (€24).

Livorno can be reahced by train from Rome in about 2.5 hours. From Livorno's main train station, take bus 1 to Piazza Grande, where you can find the passenger terminals.

Porto Torres can be reached by train from Calgliari (south of Sardinia) in about 4 hours. Shuttle buses will take you to the commercial port. 

From Palermo’s central station, take bus 139  to Via Francesco Crispi. From there it’s a shot walk to the passenger terminal.

Salerno is a 2 to 3 hour train ride from Rome. From Salerno’s main train station, you can take a bus to the docks.

InterRail pass holders get discounts up to 50% on the ferry route Brindisi – Patras (Greece) (with extra stops at Corfu & Cefalonia in the summer).

  • 30% discount on all categories (except the luxury cabin) in high season (15/06 - 15/09)
  • 50% discount on all categories (except the luxury cabin) outside the high season

Brindisi is a 5 hour train ride from Rome. Take the bus (navetta centro storico) to get to docks. This bus line operates every 20 minutes.

Booking information

The best place to enquire about bus services is at a local tourist office or railway station. In large towns and cities, buses run to and from bus stations (gare d’autobus/routière) usually located next to railway stations. In rural areas, bus services are often operated by the SNCF and run between local towns and the railway station. An SNCF bus, on which rail tickets and passes are valid, is shown as an autocar in rail timetables.
