Alive at night

All music tastes are catered for in this music-mad city and with over 20 music venues dotted about the place there’s always plenty of live music events going on. Oslo has a buzzing jazz scene and Bare Jazz bar is a cosy little venue hidden on a side alley with a very welcoming atmsosphere. For rockers and late-night drinkers, the newly established Fun House has a lively atmosphere with a mix of live gigs and rock, punk and indie tunes playing out ‘til the early hours. You won’t be stuck for stuff to do during the evening in Oslo.

Bare Jazz bar is a 5-minute walk from Stortinget train station and the Fun House is a 10-minute walk from the same station.

Compelling city museums

Oslo is a great place to visit for museum fanatics and history boffins. The Viking Ship Museum displays some of the best-preserved Viking ships in existence. Here you can also take a look at the displays of fascinating treasures excavated along with the ships, including jewellery and weapons. Another popular attraction is the Nobel Peace Center, which takes you along a fascinating journey among past laureates and their work, as well as detailing Alfred Nobel’s life. The museum contains regular exhibitions, theatre and multi-media and interactive displays.

To get to the Viking Ship Museum take bus from outside Oslo’s main train station. The Nobel Peace Center is a 5-minute walk from Nationaltheatret train station.

Supreme shopping and sculptures

Pick up some great bargains at the Sunday market in Blå, with designers and artists showcasing cool clothing, ceramics and paintings and bargain hunt for some nifty vintage apparel. For something a bit different drop by Vigeland park within Frogner Park. The park is littered with impressive granite and bronze statues by the country’s favourite sculptor, Gustav Vigeland. The main park itself is also a popular hangout in summer with picnickers and those looking to chill out within its serene surroundings.
