Recent revolution
Focus on the area north of the Dâmboviţa river, where you’ll find the most interesting attractions. Piaţa Revoluţiei (Revolution Square) has some stories to tell. Just off the square is the former headquarters of the former Communist Party. It was from the balcony of this building that the former Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu unknowingly made his last speech. Days later he and his wife were executed. Just a 10-minute walk from there is the gigantic Palace of Parliament – one of the most costly and extravagant buildings in the world. It also claims to be the second largest building on the planet, based on surface area.

Bucharest also has its own version of the Arc de Triomphe. It was built in 1922, in honour of the Romanian soldiers who fought in World War.
