
Slovenia's train network operated by SZ will get you to most of the destinations within the country.
Ljubljana is a good starting point to explore other parts of the country by train.
The InterRail Global Pass and InterRail Slovenia Pass are valid on all trains of the national railway company Slovenske Zeleznice (SZ).

How to get there
The capital city of Ljubljana is easy reachable by direct trains from Austria (Vienna), Germany (Munich), Italy (Venice), Switzerland (Zurich), Czech Republic (Prague), Hungary (Budapest), Romania (Bucharest), Croatia (Zagreb)and Serbia (Belgrade).
Train types and seat reservations
SZ operates the following types of trains:
- InterCitySlovenija (ICS): reservations are required
- EuroCity (EC), InterCity (IC): reservations are recommended but not required
- MV: interregional trains, reservations are not required
- Regionalni vlaki (RG): regional trains)
- Primestni vlaki (LP, local trains), reservations are not required.
- International trains (MV): reservations required
- EuroNight (EN): night train, reservations required
Only for the high-speed train InterCitySlovenija (ISC) a seat reservation is required. This reservation is free when made at the station before travelling.
The ICS runs nine times a day between Maribor and Ljubljana and back. Once a day the train continues to Koper.
