Reservation fees

For some domestic trains advance reservations are compulsory or recommended. Below is a list of the domestic trains that require reservations, plus an indication of the reservation fee.

There are no compulsory reservations for domestic trains in Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Luxembourg, Macedonia FYROM and Montenegro. For long distance trains in Turkey is a free reservation possible, but not required.

Reservations are particularly recommended during the high season. Some trains (Thalys and TGV) have a limited number of seats for InterRail pass holders.

You may be able to make reservations before your trip at main train stations in your country or during your trip at most international train stations. It’s also possible to make reservations through the Deutsche Bahn rail company. More about how to make reservations

These fares are only valid for domestic routes within France.
There is a limited number of seats reserved for InterRail pass holders at the €6 fare. If the train you want is fully booked, you can travel at the €18 peak price, which can only be booked locally last minute.

It is recommended to make reservations in advance for night trains, particularly during peak times – if the night train you’re expecting to get on is full, you don’t want to be stuck with nowhere to sleep! However, if there’s space then it’s possible to reserve a place on the next train. The fee you pay, depends on the sleeping accommodation you choose.
