Making reservations
InterRailNet.Com can not make seat reservations for you. We can help you on your way with a few suggestions on how to make reservations.
Reservations are in general recommended. Generally, you can make the reservations for a boat at the ticket window of the shipping line company. Sometimes they can be made in advance through the website of the shipping company.
Most high-speed trains require reservations and/or supplements. However, often it's possible to avoid paying these supplements when you research alternative routes!
This means that you'll use domestic trains which are slower, but it normally means also that your travel is free from those extra costs.
The cost of a seat reservation depends on the type of train and the level of comfort.
Second clas reservations for domestic trains are usually between 3-10 euro. International trains can be more expensive, for example the Thalys. Supplements for night trains can range from 3 euro for a reclining seat to over 100 euro for a private sleeping cabin.
Reservations are required for many long-distance international trains, high-speed trains like TGV and Thalys and for night trains.
Train travel planning
There are ferries between Italy and Greece operated by Superfast Ferries and Bluestar Ferries. They connect Patras and Igoumenitsa in Greece with Ancona and Bari in Italy.
The best way to find up-to-date information in the (rare) case of a strike of a railway company is on the website of the specific railway. You can find links to the railway companies in each country in the country section.
There are no weight limitations on baggage (except for a few trains such as the Eurostar or some of the special hotel trains). You are really limited by what you can easily carry and board.
No, journeys with Eurostar (from and to London) are not included in the InterRail Pass. You can get a special Pass holder fare if your InterRail Pass is valid in either the country of departure or the country of arrival.
You can find links to European and national timetables on the page Timetables.
InterRail is an adventure which requires some advance planning. On our website you can find a lot of planning information.
